Concrete Ponds
There are no shortcuts when it comes to building a concrete pond. Improper practices can lead to higher maintenance, repair, and replacement costs than the original construction cost. Follow these rules to ensure a long-lasting concrete pond.
Keep in mind that for a perfect concrete pond, you'll need to pour the concrete to a thickness of four to six inches. After deciding on the measures and outlining the area, all soil (and rocks!) should be dug out. After that, forms must be created and put where concrete will be poured, along with the precise placing of cut-to-fit reinforcement bars (rebar). For digging up the area for concrete pond construction, you'll need shovels, picks, a crowbar, and, of course, a wheelbarrow. Other items needed are a carpenters level, twine, stakes, plastic sheets, and a long two-by-four. Unless the pond is extremely large, pouring the cement in concrete pond construction should be done in stages over the course of one day. Pour the cement first into the pool's bottom, then into the sides. If shelves have been excavated, the next step is to fill them with cement. Finally, pour cement for the pond's top as well as any necessary coping. After you've completed the first few steps of your concrete pond construction project, let the cement cure for a few days under plastic. Treatment with muriatic acid at this stage helps to prevent high pH levels in the water later, which is beneficial to fish and plants. After the acid treatment, apply many layers of pool paint or masonry sealant, allowing each coat to cure completely between coats. Constructing a concrete pond might be an excellent educational opportunity. It's best to start with a smaller pond and work your way up to a larger project if you succeed. If you've perfected the technique of making concrete ponds, though, there's no knowing where you could go from there. So, research, construct, and construct some more! |
